Patios and Walkways: Outdoor Living

I really enjoy hanging out on well made natural stone patios. Despite the hardness of the surface there is something strangely comfortable about them. I find people to be friendlier and more open when they are among stones. Perhaps rocks serve to soften the souls of hard shelled humans. And it is sort of fun to see how the different shapes fit together to form mosaics and patterns and images on a walkable large surface area.

Nevertheless, I don’t really enjoy working on patios very much. Or walkways either. Something about flat work seems to make my poor old bones hurt more. There is a high percentage of pure grunt work too. The artistic part of fitting the shapes together is amusing but all the work like stuff of setting and leveling and lifting up and down. Is just not good for me. I like the finished product. I’ve built a lot of beautiful patios over the years that I look back upon with fondness. I am going to include pictures of some of the patios I have built in a rotating gallery upon this page.

But don’t get ideas in your head about contacting me to do a big patio or a long walkway now. I’m done with flat work. If I have a small patio or walkway as part of a bigger stone wall or staircase project, I will have a helper do the flat part. As a matter of fact, I am on the lookout for a strong young person to take over all my flat work.
